What it does

The flange bolts to the rear of the cylinder head and connects several coolant hoses. It forms part of the engine’s coolant distribution system and seals against the cylinder head with O-rings.

Common failure

This is one of the more common coolant leak points on the EA888 Gen 2 engines.

Typical failures include:

• Plastic body becomes brittle from heat cycling.
• Hose outlet snaps during hose removal.
• O-ring hardens and leaks.
• Coolant residue or pink/white crust around the back of the engine.
• Slow coolant loss without an obvious leak.
